Vision-guided inspection cell for a tier-1 trim supplier
A 40-variant inspection station rebuilt around a robot, 3D vision and a recipe-driven quality workflow.
The challenge
- Forty product variants shared one station, and each changeover required manual re-teaching.
- Glossy and textured surfaces produced unstable 2D inspection results under shift lighting changes.
- Quality records were paper-based, so customer audits took days to prepare.
What we built
- Robot tending with quick-change grippers and a variant recipe loaded from the MES order.
- Dome lighting plus 3D point-cloud matching, with classical measurement where it is more stable.
- Automated pass/fail records written back to MES, searchable by part serial number.
- Operator console designed for gloved use, with a single recovery action per fault type.
